GTA 6 is PS5 Pro Enhanced: what Sony's store tag confirms, and what it does not

Less than four weeks before launch, the most common PS5 question we get is still the same: will GTA 6 run better on a PS5 Pro, and is it 60fps? The honest answer has two parts. One is settled: the PlayStation Store lists Grand Theft Auto VI as PS5 Pro Enhanced, and has done since pre-orders opened on 25 June 2026 (TheGamer, 25 June 2026). The other is not: neither Rockstar nor Sony has said what the enhancement consists of. Here is what that means if you are deciding between a PS5 and a PS5 Pro before 19 November.

What we know for certain

  • The label is official. It sits on Sony's own store listing, which is as close to a platform confirmation as it gets.
  • Sony and Rockstar promoted PS5 features. The PlayStation Blog post of 24 June 2026, titled "Grand Theft Auto VI plays best on PS5 November 19", highlighted DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, Tempest 3D AudioTech and fast loading from the PS5's SSD (PlayStation Blog). It did not give PS5 Pro performance figures.
  • The launch trailer was shot on PS5. Rockstar's launch trailer of 15 October 2026 was reported as captured in-game on PS5 (God is a Geek). It shows the game's look, not its frame rate.
  • The release is 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S (Take-Two).

What "PS5 Pro Enhanced" can mean

Sony applies the label to games updated to take advantage of the Pro's stronger GPU, its improved ray tracing and PSSR, its machine-learning upscaler. Across the games that carry it, the improvement has taken different forms: some run at a higher resolution, some hold a steadier or higher frame rate, some add ray-traced effects, and some combine these. The label itself does not tell you which approach a particular game takes.

For GTA 6, that means each of these is possible, and none is confirmed:

  • a performance mode at or near 60fps on Pro
  • higher resolution or cleaner image quality via PSSR
  • extra ray-traced reflections or lighting

The 60fps question

Fans read the label as a hint at 60fps on Pro. That is a reasonable hope, not a fact. Rockstar has not published any frame-rate target for either console, and its past open worlds launched at 30fps on base consoles. Game sites that quote a specific Pro frame rate today are relaying leaks or guessing. We keep that claim marked as a rumour on our PS5 Pro page until Rockstar or Sony states otherwise, or until launch-day testing shows it.

Should you buy a PS5 Pro for GTA 6?

Prices matter here. Since Sony's price change on 2 April 2026, the recommended US price is $899.99 for the PS5 Pro against $649.99 for the standard PS5 and $599.99 for the Digital Edition (UK: £789.99, £569.99, £519.99) (PlayStation Blog, 27 March 2026). Our view:

  • You own a base PS5 and play on a 1080p screen: keep it. The Pro's advantages are hardest to see at that resolution.
  • You own a base PS5 and a good 4K TV: the Pro is more tempting than it was in spring, because GTA 6 is confirmed to use it. If the exact gain matters to you, wait for launch-day comparisons; they will appear within days of 19 November.
  • You have no PS5 yet: the Pro also brings a 2TB SSD with about 1.89TB usable, which removes the storage headache for a game that could be 150 to 200GB (an estimate; the official size is not out yet). If the budget allows, it is the more future-proof pick. If not, the standard PS5 runs the game.

Retailer offers can change the maths; our bundle tracker lists what is official and what is a shop deal.

What would change this article

We will update this piece and the PS5 Pro page if Rockstar or Sony publishes performance modes, if the PlayStation Store listing adds detail, or once independent testing after launch shows how the Pro version runs. Until then, the accurate summary is short: GTA 6 is PS5 Pro Enhanced; how it is enhanced has not been announced.
